The Wine Show Episodes
When we started thinking about how to make a show about wine, we knew two things: it was going to be a challenge and it was going to be great fun. We’re glad to say that the challenge forced us to think of wine in what we hope is a really new and fresh way, and the fun… well, hopefully you can see how much everyone enjoyed making the series.
Each show follows the same broad shape, with Matthew and Matthew welcoming Joe back from his travels at the Torre de Sol on the D’Amico wine estate on the Lazio/Umbria border in Italy. Joe and Amelia visited 11 countries between them, and our special correspondent chef, Gizzi Erskine, was lucky enough to travel to the Napa Valley and Arizona.
It’s not all laughs though. The subjects we look at can be serious too. From immigration and the persecution of the Lutherans who fled to Australia, to the heroism of winemakers in World War 2 and the realities of climate change, we’ve tried to look at the world through wine and tell stories about the world we live in today, and how wine has been part of our history.
Matthew Rhys’s favourite section was the gadgets and we really enjoyed seeing what our 12 incredibly talented chefs chose to cook with their favourite wine.
You can find out more about Matt and Matt’s trip round Italy here, where Joe challenges them to find wines to fill a case which represents the spirit of Italy.
We end each show with another film from a far-flung wine land and a final tasting with Matt and Matt.
As a film crew we managed to chalk up nearly a million miles in the air and rented 70 cars on five continents. The only continent we didn’t visit was Antarctica, but if someone decides to do something fun with wine there it would be great to cross that one off the list in the next series…
There are 12 original episodes in this series of The Wine Show (check them out below) and a finale featuring all the best bits for our thirteenth programme. We really hope you enjoy watching it and being here with us on our website as much as we’ve enjoyed bringing it to you.
With best wishes
